GeekWire Radio: Star Trek at 50, Facebook booms in Seattle, and TechStars startup highlights

Star Trek Exhibition - EMP Museum

This week on the GeekWire radio show and podcast: Insights from Jeff Bezos at Amazon’s annual meeting, a roundup of the top pitches from Techstars Seattle Demo Day, and a sneak preview of the new “Star Trek: Exploring New Worlds” exhibit at EMP Museum in Seattle — complete with a Klingon lesson.

Our App of the Week, Penny, is a chatbot to get your personal finances in order. Then we take a closer look at Google’s new Home smart speaker, the search giant’s Amazon Echo competitor.

In the final segment, we get a tour of Facebook’s new Seattle engineering center from Mike Schroepfer, the company’s chief technology officer. Facebook has grown to more than 1,000 people in the region, its largest engineering center outside of Menlo Park, Calif., and the new space will give it room for up to 2,000 people over time.
